Ativan (lorazepam) can be used to treat patients diagnosed with any of the anxiety disorders. Ativan may be habit-forming and should therefore be used only for as long as recommended by the doctro, usually not more than 4 months. Do not take this medicine if you are expecting a baby or breastfeeding. If you have to start taking this drug you may be recommended to stop breastfeeding. Even if you get pregnant while taking Ativan do not stop your treatment and talk to your doctor as soon as possible to learn about the potential risks. Ativan can make the effects of alcohol stronger. Avoid drinking and taking this medicine.

Ativan can be habit-forming and should therefore be used with caution by people who had an addiction in the past. Your doctor may change your dose as you carry on with the treatment to make sure you get the full benefits from taking Ativan. Before you start taking this medicine, your doctor needs to know if you are taking any other drugs, and as much as possible about your medical history. Tell your health care provider if you are taking or have recently taken medicines to treat psychiatric disorders, narcotic medications, antidepressants, MAO inhibitors or barbiturates.
